Dragons Digital Rerand

The Dragons logo holds a lot of history. Their primary shield design has been in play since 1978. And that will not change.

But things have changed since then, particularly in the digital world. An online presence is crucial in today’s day-and-age, so the club have decided to strip things back to really focus on the Dragon and have it dominate the limited space.

In 2020 the NRL unveiled a suite of simplified digital logos for all clubs. Although the design was certainly much simpler than the busy primary logo, it missed the mark in capturing that Dragon pose that is so synonymous with the logo.

The task was to redraw the famous Dragon with smoother linework and sharp distinct features, whilst having the finished product resemble that of the Dragon inside the shield we have all come to know. Particular focus was placed on the head, and correcting the snake-like NRL design, whilst including the additional claw that was dropped off in 2020.

The result is a clean design, with the overall pose and balance of the Dragon occupying the crucial 1:1 digitial space that logos are often restricted to online.
